MAGIC OF THE LOUVRE MUSEUM One of the greatest monuments that I had the opportunity to visit is the Louvre museum. The Louvre is one of the many astonishing museums in Paris and definitely it tops on my list. The Louvre is one of the largest and most diverse museums in the world. According to a guidebook, “it would take nine months to glance at every piece” inside. It is home to priceless antiquities, works of the masters and stunning architecture, including the inverted glass pyramid. Here you can find Leonardo’s Mona Lisa, crown jewels and the Napoleon III Apartments. Approximately 38,000 objects from prehist...

India has a rich cultural tradition. There is a harmonious blend of art, religion and philosophy in the Indian culture . They are so beautifully interwoven in the fabric of Indian way of life and thought that they are inseparable. Indian culture is actually an outcome of continuous synthesis and has absorbed many external influences in the course of long jurney of history. The first stirring of civilisation occurred amongst the people of India some 4,000 years before the birth of Christ. From those ancient times till recent past, we were exposed to unbroken sequence of civilisations. It is only the dynamism and the flexibility of Indian culture that enabled it to survive these foreign invasions and retain its originality and traditional character even after imbibing the best of these external influences. Indian people, by nature tolerant and fatalists, did not at any time ridicule the traditions of foreign civilisations. On the other hand, Indian mind has assimilated much of the...

There are two major schools of classical music—the Hindustani and the Karnataka. Both derive their rules from the classical treatises Natya Shastra of Bharata and Sangeet Ratnakarby Sarangdeva. There are about 250 ragas commonly used in north as well as south. Indian music has had great impact on the Western music. Great maestros like Pandit Ravi Shankar, Zakir Hussain, etc. have made valuable contribution towards popularising and promoting Indian music abroad. The background of Indian dance is infinitely rich and varied, as varied as the land itself, yet with the same underlying unity which binds the people of the country together. The dances of India, whether folk or classical, are an eloquent expression of an ancient civilisation, whose timeless wisdom continues to evoke the passionate search of man for conscious identity with God. Folk and tribal dances of India are of innumerable types. But they all express its people’s natural gaiety, sense of abandon and rhythm. The origin o...

Religious activities are deeply engrossed in Indian culture. These activities are lavish household affairs with everyone contributing their mite. These traditional activities result in persons learning about their heritage, religion and other spiritualities in the company of seniors. There are several rituals in any such religious functions which is difficult to understand in the right perspective and the present generation, moving away from tradition, try to be sarcastic about them. However, if tried to understand logically and learning from experience, we discover the nuances which are thoroughly scientific and meant for purification of the body and soul. Our marriages, which are generally arranged by elders, are mostly settled on the basis of horoscopes. This is our tradition, but the logic is that people the world over believe in stars and their effect on them. Our marriages are also performed according to specific rites, which are very logical, due to which couples believe ...

TIGER CAVE The Tiger Caves are not actually caves, and tigers do not live here! These rock-cut structures with tiger-head like shapes . The Tiger caves are a part of ASI (Archaeological Survey of India) protected monuments and the venue is maintained neatly with proper parking space and lush green lawn/trees for visitors. There are no entrance fees, but there is a small parking fee. There are a few small stalls outside this venue, offering cool-drinks, tender coconut, etc. Tender coconut is healthy – you can have them anywhere in India. Cool drinks are not, if it’s not already obvious! This venue not only has fewer visitors (compared to Mahabalipuram), but it is located in a quiet, green and serene location. There is a nice lawn maintained by ASI and the large trees provide some shade and cooling. There are small rocks all around this place and kids will have a good time climbing t...

What is to be done to enhance the awareness of Indian culture? We need to respect all cultures. If you like your culture, Good for you, appreciate it. That being said, even if you don’t like the culture you grew up with, you must still respect it because there are many people who follow the same. You must be aware that there are others who do not share your view in how one should live. You should respect it because, to many, their culture is a large part of their identity. Culture is not only about you. It’s the beliefs of your ancestors and it was their expressions, thoughts and approach towards their lives. It has changed our way of living and collective thinking and has impacted us both positively and negatively. But positivity and negativity are not the only purpose a culture serve. Are we indians losing our indian culture? I would say yes to it. One of the main reason is that the west makes products of high quality and everything they make must be of high quality isn't it? I don't know nor do I speak of other cultures but Indian culture has a lot of science behind it. Recently, i saw a post saying copper kills bacteria and using them in hospital bed railings prevents contamination. But in India using copper vessels for storing water, food, etc are practiced since ages. Drinking in copper glass and eating in banana leaf is a norm in olden days. Also, the verses and meaning of Bhagawad gita is the source of many self help books. And most of them are being seriously used in the corporate world. The surya namaskar and yoga are practiced heavily in the west and so we practice the same. Due to the antiseptic properties of turmeric, it will be someday used by the western countries as a spray at their doorstep (may be). I feel that how many c...
