PONGAL CELEBRATION 

Pongal is a  harvest fesitival which is celebrated to thank sun god Surya. It is one one of my favourite festival. It is four days festival. Bhogi, main pongal, mattu pongal.

The day preceding pongal is Bhogi. One the day of bhogi we used to get up early in the morning and we used to decard our old things in fire. This ressembles to  burning the old sins and getting ready for the fresh life. 

Main pongal which is celebrated on the first day of the tamil month thai. On this day we used to draw rangoli  which resembles clay spots and sugercane. Sweet pongal like jaggery or sugar is specially prepared  for worship. This sweet pongal is specially prepared on sunlight and also pooja work is also done in sun light.
       When I was young I used sit under the shades of the tree and we used to eat the sugar canes, chatting, singing, playing together.

  Mattu pongal  is specially celebrated only for cows. On this day cows are bathed and decorated with paints, sandal, kungumam, baloons. This day is specially celebrated for them by feeding them much good food as a dedication for their hard work.
     New clothes are kept in worship and kids used to wear these clothes after worship. We get blessings from elders. This day is much familiar for jallikattu or taming the wild bull for adventurous games.

Kannum pongal is a day where we visit our friends and relatives house as a get together. Brothers specially gift to their sisters as affirmation of their fillal love. Landlords present food, clothes, and money to the workforce.

   Starting as a harvest festival, now it becomes as a festival where everyone can celebrate it and cherish it.
