FESTIVALS OF INDIA
The culturally rich land of India has various
festivals on its soil. Some of the important festivals of India are: Diwali
which is the festival of lights. On Diwali people begin the day with an
auspicious pooja with new traditional clothes,followed by bursting crackers,
distributing sweets and glowing deeyas. The houses are decorated with garlands
of electric lights and colorful rangolis.
Holi
is another important festival which is also called the festival of colours. On
this day people throw colour powders on each other.

Christmas is the most important festival of
Christians. It is celebrated as the birthday of Lord Jesus Christ on 25th December.
The Christmas tree is decorated with artificial stars , lights and toys on this
days. Cakes and puddings are served. Children get dressed in new clothes. Any
person disguised as Santa Claus distributes sweet among children. Prayers are
offered in churches.
Dussehra is also called as Vijayadashami it is celebrated at the end of Navratri every year. It is observed on the tenth day in the
Hindu calendar month of ashivini, the seventh month of the Hindu Luni-Solar
Calendar, which typically falls in the Gregorian months of September and
October.
Ganesh
Chaturthi is prominently celebrated in the state of Maharashtra. The
festival spans over a period of 10 days, the last of which is marked with the
maximum amount of revelry. Humungous idols of Lord Ganesha are carried to the
sea shore for the procession of Visarjan, immersing the idol inside the water
body. The walk from one’s home to the sea shore is filled with a rich amount of
dancing and singing.
India is culturally rich country with many
